Location of Siefen in Bergisch Gladbach

Siefen is a district in the Romaney district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

Siefen was named after a settlement founded in the late Middle Ages . It is documented as Syffen for 1448 .

A tax list from 1586 shows that the village was part of the Grimßgewalt community in the Odenthal parish.

The settlement later split into two districts, which the original cadastre lists as Kochs Siefen on Romaneyer Straße and Meisen Siefen near Combüche . The so-called distance table from around 1820 shows that the name Siefen was retained as the official place name for both districts.

etymology

The name of the settlement is derived from the medieval sife (= slowly flowing swampy stream) or from the verb sifen (= trickle, drip). It refers to a narrow ravine-like forest valley with a small trickle or a narrow valley rich in springs .
