Siegfried Bauer (born May 15, 1961 in Karlsruhe ; † December 30, 2018 in Linz ) was a German physicist and university professor . He was Professor of Experimental Physics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz and Head of Department for Physics of Soft Matter at the Institute for Experimental Physics.

Life

Siegfried Bauer graduated from Ludwig-Marum-Gymnasium in Pfinztal in 1980 and studied physics at the University of Fridericiana in Karlsruhe . In 1990 he received his doctorate, six years later he completed his habilitation in applied physics at the University of Potsdam . After working as a lecturer at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences , as a project manager at the Heinrich Hertz Institute for Telecommunications (HHI) Berlin and as an assistant professor at the University of Potsdam, he took up his position as a university professor for experimental physics at the Institute for Experimental Physics at the JKU Linz in 1997. In addition, from 2002 to 2018 he held the chair in "Soft Matter Physics" at this institute. He died of cancer on December 30, 2018.
