Siegfried Fricker

Siegfried Fricker (born March 3, 1907 in Jestetten ; † February 25, 1976 there ) was a German sculptor .

biography

Trained as a wood and stone sculptor, he passed his apprenticeships in 1925 - and his master craftsman examination in 1936 . In between he attended the Munich Art College . Since 1936 he had his own workshop in Jestetten, which was to produce several national winners in the field of sculpture.

Works of art

Fricker was best known for his numerous ways of the cross , which he carried out in wood and stone. A total of 36 of these crossroads have been preserved, for example in the St. Peter Church in Mannheim , which received further works by the artist in the course of the reconstruction after 1945. Also in the newly built Church of the Assumption in Neuchâtel on the Rhine from 1952 , one of his oak wood crossways can be admired, which was created in 1965 and originally made for the Holy Cross Chapel on the southern edge of the city. In the Dormition Church in Jerusalem , he decorated a chapel with ivory and ebony reliefs. In the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Freiburg im Breisgau , the Marien Altar was decorated in 1962 with a sculpture of the Virgin Mary created by Fricker. In addition to wood and stone, Fricker also created glass windows, painted and illustrated books. During his military service in Russia during the Second World War , he created two painted crossroads in Minsk .

In his hometown of Jestetten, many of his works of art have been preserved in the form of wall paintings or glass windows.
