Siegfried Gericke (born September 8, 1901 in Werben near Wittenberg , † November 14, 1987 in Essen ) was a German agricultural chemist .

Live and act

Siegfried Gericke, son of a theologian, studied chemistry at the universities of Münster and Göttingen , did his doctorate at a university in France and in 1928 joined the agricultural research institute of the Thomas phosphate producers founded in Berlin as head of the chemical laboratory . From 1935 to 1967 he headed this institute, which he expanded into the central test station for Thomas phosphate research in Germany. He rebuilt the research institute, which was badly damaged in World War II, in Essen-Bredeney in 1949 .

Gericke has extensive experimental research on the value and impact of the phosphoric acid - fertilization performed. Like hardly any other scientist in his field, he knew how to present the results of his experimental work in agricultural practice in an understandable way. In total, he published over 400 articles, including over 100 in the institution's own journal Die Phosphorsäure , which he edited as chief editor from 1931 to 1967. He also wrote numerous books and pamphlets on the fertilization of individual crops - many of which had high editions. In 1966 Gericke was awarded the Sprengel - Liebig Medal in gold donated by the Association of German Agricultural Investigations and Research Institutes for his services as a scientist and supporter of agriculture .
