Siegfried Hettenus (actually Siegfried Hett; * in Grüningen ; † October 7, 1585 in Schlüchtern ) was the second Protestant abbot of the Schlüchtern monastery .

cleric

Siegfried Hettenus was born as the son of Jakob Hett. He was ordained a subdeacon in 1538 and a priest in 1540 after becoming a member of the Schlüchtern convent in 1539 . From 1542–1544 he studied at the University of Wittenberg , was then appointed pastor of Schlüchtern by the monastery and married. On the funeral day of his predecessor, Petrus Lotichius , June 25, 1567, he was elected by the convent of the monastery in the presence of councilors of the guardianship of Count Philip Ludwig I of Hanau-Munzenberg and on October 10 to the count, his guardianship and his successor committed. These in turn confirmed the choice of the abbot. This procedure, by which the Bishop of Würzburg , Friedrich von Wirsberg , saw himself curtailed in his rights, led to a diplomatic dispute that lasted for years , which ultimately remained open and had an impact on the relationship between the Bishop of Würzburg and the County of Hanau up to that time of the Thirty Years War and beyond.

family

Siegfried Hettenus married on December 8, 1544 Elisabeth Lotichius (* 1524 in Niederzell ; † in Schlüchtern), a niece of his predecessor and the sister of his coadjutor Christian Lotichius . They had several children, including Margarethe, († March 3, 1581), who married Pankratius Rullmann (1568–1628), who in turn was rector of the Latin school to which the monastery was transformed during the Reformation .
