Joachim Siegfried Meurer (born May 9, 1908 in Dresden ; † December 2, 1997 in Kreuth ) was a German mechanical engineer and the developer of the MAN - M engine .

Meurer studied mechanical engineering at what was then the Dresden Technical University , where he joined the student association Corps Altsachsen , and was an assistant there until 1938. In 1937 he received his doctorate on piezoelectric indicators as measuring sensors. Interrupted by a position as head of the thermodynamic department of the "Arsenal de l'Aeronautique" in Paris from 1946 to 1950 , he worked in research and development at MAN from 1938 , and from 1962 as a board member. In 1969 he was appointed honorary professor at the Technical University of Aachen .

In 1954/55 Meurer developed the quiet diesel multi-fuel engine ( center ball or M process) and was therefore called the father of the whisper engine .

Meurer was married to Lotti Meurer (née Körner) for many years and had four children and six grandchildren. He lived in Augsburg and Kreuth, where he was a Rotarian . Meurer was a close friend of the well-known Munich scientist Albrecht Hussmann and, even after the wall was built, he kept in touch with his colleagues in Dresden at the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Automotive Engineering for a long time.
