Siegfried Wittenbeck

Siegfried Wittenbeck (born September 18, 1931 , † September 28, 2005 ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SED ). From 1987 to 1990 he was State Secretary in the GDR .

Life

Wittenbeck joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). He studied law at the law faculty of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , graduating with a degree in law . He was later promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. From 1960 he worked as a judge at the Stollberg District Court and from 1964 first as a judge, then as a chief judge at the Supreme Court of the GDR . He was a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Court and chairman of the Criminal Senate 2a.

In February 1982 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice in the GDR . In October 1987 he was promoted to State Secretary as successor to Herbert Kern . He remained in office in the GDR until the reunification , and was confirmed in 1990 by the de Maizière government as head of Department 4 (criminal law).

On May 19, 1993, Wittenbeck was one of the 61 founding members of the “ Society for Legal and Humanitarian Support ” (GRH) in Berlin's Karl-Liebknecht-Haus and was elected a member of the board.

Wittenbeck was married and the father of two children. He last lived as a lawyer in Berlin and died at the age of 74. He was buried in the central cemetery in Friedrichsfelde .
