Sieglinde Ahrens

Sieglinde Ahrens (born February 19, 1936 in Berlin) is a German organist and university professor .

Career

Ahrens studied at the Berlin University of Music with Boris Blacher (composition) and her father, the composer and cathedral organist Joseph Ahrens (organ, improvisation, Gregorian chant). She completed her studies in 1958 with an organ diploma with distinction. Further studies took her to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen , where she received the “Premier Prix” in the Olivier Messiaen class in 1959.

From 1950 to 1956 she worked as an organist at the Salvator Church in Berlin. In 1962 she was appointed lecturer for organ at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen; In 1970 she received a professorship for organ at the same university. In 1964 she received the support award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for music .

Sieglinde Ahrens became known through her concert activities at home and abroad as well as through radio and CD recordings, including first recordings of the organ works by Joseph Ahrens and Petr Eben .
