Siegmar Schmidt

Siegmar Schmidt (* 1961 in Arnsberg ) is a German political scientist and university professor.

Life

Schmidt studied political science at the University of Munich , graduated in 1987 and was there in 1992 on the role of the black trade union movement in the democratization process in South Africa doctorate . In 1998 he completed his habilitation at the University of Trier . In 1998/99 he was a representative of a professorship at the University of Mainz . Since 1999 he has been Professor of Political Science at the University of Koblenz-Landau and since 2017 Head of the Political Science Department at the University's Institute for Social Science. There he is professor for “Analysis and Comparison of Political Systems and International Politics”. He is also the scientific director of the Frank Loeb Institute.

His main research interests are German foreign policy, the foreign policy of Western countries, comparison and analysis of political systems, European integration and foreign policy, the Third World and Africa. Numerous research trips took him to the USA and African countries.
