The Sierra Cristal is a mountain region in eastern Cuba . After the Sierra Maestra , it is the second highest in the country. It extends over the south of the province of Holguín and the north of the province of Santiago de Cuba and includes the municipalities Mayarí , Sagua de Tánamo , Frank País and Segundo Frente . The highest point is the Pico Cristal with 1214 meters.

The Sierra Cristal is characterized by slopes covered with pine trees and deep ravines created by rivers. Here Raúl Castro opened as Comandante from March 1958 during the Cuban Revolution after the Sierra Maestra a second combat area, which went down in history as the Second Front ( Spanish: Segundo Frente ) and from where the revolution spread rapidly throughout the country.

The oldest national park in Cuba is located in the area of ​​the Sierra Cristal . The area around the Pico Cristal was declared a national park as early as 1930. Large populations of numerous endemic species of animals and plants are found here.
