The type 183 is a heavy lift cargo ship class comprising two ships and was developed as the successor to the type 176 by the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde . The two ships Svenja and Lone belong to the Hamburg shipping company SAL Heavy Lift .

history

The Lone recovering the Costa Concordia

In December 2005, the SAL Heavy Lift shipping company ordered two other Type 176 ships as well as two heavy lift ships from Sietas , each of which was to be equipped with two 1000 t cranes and a dynamic positioning system (DP). These two new buildings with construction numbers 1279 and 1280 were initially designated as type 179 . SAL Heavy Lift ordered two more Type 179 ships (hull numbers 1300 and 1301) in 2006. The first two units were laid down on December 20, 2007. The delivery of the four new buildings was originally supposed to take place between March and December 2010. In August 2008, SAL Heavy Lift canceled all four construction contracts because the construction costs of the ships had increased significantly as a result of the sharp rise in steel prices.

When the end of the global economic crisis became apparent in the summer of 2009 , SAL Heavy Lift decided to have the two ships already laid down in a modified version completed and accepted. The revised ship design was named Type 183. In December 2010, the Svenja, equipped with DP 1 , was the first Type 183 ship to be put into service. Her sister Lone , completed in March 2011, is equipped with DP 2. Both ships fly the flag of Antigua & Barbuda.

Technical specifications

The 160.00 m long ships, which have a maximum load capacity of 12,500 dwt , are equipped with two 1,000 t cranes from NMF , which can lift 2,000 t in tandem. This makes these ships the most powerful heavy lift carriers on the market. Your cargo space is 12,800 m³, not subdivided and thus results in a 107 m long storage space. With the 12,600 kW engine from MAN Diesel , the service speed is 20 knots, a speed that is otherwise reached by container ships . The ships are equipped with two bow thrusters with an output of 1,200 kW each and a stern thruster with 800 kW. In addition, the Lone has two azimuths ( propeller pods ) of 1,200 kW each.
