The band Sightwinder was formed in 2004 as a school band at the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Marbach am Neckar . The band combines rock and pop songs with elements from soul and jazz .

Members and formation

The founding members Daniela Bellin, Felix Gschwind and Timo Herberholz got to know each other in the advanced music course at the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium and initially covered older songs. The name Sightwinder goes back to a song by Lee Morgan , but is spelled differently there. The band leader Felix Gschwind composes the songs and plays the guitar. The group's singer, Daniela Bellin, writes lyrics to the songs. With Timo Herberholz on double bass and trumpeter Georg Lange, who joined the Landesjazzorchester, the band has played almost unchanged since it was founded. Only the drummer Fabian Maier has only been there since 2012. Sightwinder's role models are, musically, Jimi Hendrix , Chicago , Oasis and Prince , and Diana Krall and Norah Jones vocally .

Career

In 2005 Sightwinder won first prize at " Jugend jazzt " in Ludwigsburg . In the “KSK Best of Ludwigsburg” organized by the Ludwigsburg Kreissparkasse, the Marbach band also took first place in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013. She has made several guest appearances abroad, including in Belgium , Spain , Turkey and Tunisia , and has appeared in radio and television productions for the SWR . The repertoire includes melodic pop songs with influences from jazz and soul. Since around 2016 the group has been more rock-oriented. Sightwinder attaches great importance to organically generated sounds in their recordings, using old instruments and tube microphones. To achieve a warmer sound, they record with analog technology , but digital components are also used. The musicians are particularly proud of their own composition "Free", with which Sightwinder came 9th in the Amazon download statistics. In 2013 the band's third album "I feel you" was released, which, in contrast to the previous CDs "Venic's waiting" (2007) and "Sightwinder" (2005), only contains original compositions. In July 2016, Sightwinder appeared as the opening act for Zaz as well as Jan Josef Liefers and his band Radio Doria in Ludwigsburg in front of 5,000 spectators. Most of the time the band performs on a smaller scale. The fourth CD entitled "Backdoor to Disaster" is in preparation and is expected to be released in autumn 2017.
