Sigismund von Falkenstein

Sigismund Freiherr von Falkenstein (born September 14, 1903 in Münster , † June 2, 1972 in Bückeburg ) was a German officer .

Career

Falkenstein joined the Reichswehr on October 1, 1922 and was trained as a cavalryman. Appointed lieutenant on December 1, 1925, he was promoted to first lieutenant on July 1, 1928. On October 1, 1933, he switched to the not yet officially existing Luftwaffe . He trained as a fighter pilot and was on October 1, 1939, as a major, group commander of the 1st group of Kampfgeschwader 27 . From June 1940 onwards he was employed in various staffs (including X. Fliegerkorps ). At the end of the war, as major general, he was in command of the 3rd Air Division.

In October 1955 Woikowo was released from prisoner-of-war camp 5110/48 .

After joining the Bundeswehr, his appointment as Brigadier General was decided on August 7, 1957. There he was head of the Air Force Academy department at the command academy of the Bundeswehr . Von Falkenstein was buried in the cemetery in Bückeburg.
