Sigmar Bortenschlager

Sigmar Bortenschlager (born March 30, 1940 in Admont , Styria ) is an Austrian paleobotanist .

Bortenschlager grew up in Wels in Upper Austria. After graduation in 1958 he studied at the Innsbruck University , where he specialized in 1965 Botany Dr. phil. received his doctorate and habilitation there in 1974. In 1976 he became associate professor for paleobotany at the University of Innsbruck, in 1991 full professor. In 2007 he retired. His main areas of work are vegetation history and palynology .
