Sigmund Englishman
Sigmund Engländer (born in Vienna in 1828 , Austrian Empire ; died November 30, 1902 in Turin ) was an Austrian journalist and publicist.
Life
Sigmund Engländer came from an Orthodox Jewish family. He studied at the University of Vienna and was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1847 he was the editor of the literary magazine “Salon” and also worked for the “Donauzeitung”.
Engländer published the “ Wiener Katzen-Musik ” (Charivari) together with Wilhelm Beck during the revolution in 1848 , and was convicted by the press court for it. He fled to London at the end of 1848 and became a businessman there.
Sigmund Engländer exchanged extensive letters with Friedrich Hebbel .
