Signals for the Musical World was a music magazine that was launched by Bartholf Senff in 1842 and published between 1843 and 1941.

history

The magazine first appeared in a trial edition in 1842 and from 1843 onwards in the self-published "Verlag der Signals" in Berlin and in the Verlag "Expedition der Signals" in Leipzig. Later it was published by Senff in his publishing house "Bartholf Senff" founded in 1847 in Berlin and Leipzig. After Senff died in 1900, the publishing house was continued by his niece Marie Senff. This was sold in 1907 to Simrock Verlag . The magazine continued to appear in Leipzig and Berlin until 1919, and only in Berlin from 1920. In 1941 it was discontinued after 99 years and with issue No. 21/22. Original works or correspondence by well-known composers such as Edmund Abesser , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Johannes Brahms , Robert Schumann , Louis Spohr and many others appeared in the magazine . There were also reviews or obituaries. One of the employees since 1844 was Louis Köhler from Braunschweig .
