Sigrid Ida Matilda Kahle (born September 18, 1928 in Paris as Sigrid Nyberg ; † December 31, 2013 Uppsala ) was a Swedish journalist and author .

Life

Kahle is the daughter of the orientalist, religious historian and linguist Henrik Samuel Nyberg . In 1951 she married Hans Hermann (John) Kahle, the son of the orientalist Paul Kahle , and began studying oriental studies in Bonn. In 1939 Kahle fled Germany. From 1941 she continued her studies in Oxford and later was in the diplomatic service of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Sigrid Kahle published the first volume Jag valde mitt liv (literally: “I chose my life”) of her autobiography in 2003, and in 2013 the second part Att vilja sitt öde - trots allt (literally: “ Wanting his fate - despite everything”).

Sigrid Kahle specialized in the world and culture of Islam . In 2006 she and her husband donated their library with a focus on Islam and the Orient to Umeå University, and in 2008 their extensive collection of newspaper clippings to the Sigtuna Foundation .
