Sigurbergur Sveinsson (born August 12, 1987 in Hafnarfjörður ) is a handball player from Iceland .

The 1.91 meters tall and 90 kilograms heavy left backcourt player has been under contract with ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar since summer 2016 .

Career

In July 2010, Sigurbergur Sveinsson moved from Haukar Hafnarfjörður to DHC Rheinland . Due to the insolvency of the Dormagener club in early November 2010, the players were allowed to leave the club free of charge. After a trial session in Hanover, TSV Hanover-Burgdorf signed him on February 11, 2011 with immediate effect until the end of the season. He then moved to Switzerland to RTV 1879 Basel . In the summer of 2012 Sigurbergur Sveinsson rejoined Haukar Hafnarfjörður. Two years later he moved to the German Bundesliga club HC Erlangen . In the 2015/16 season he played for the Danish first division team Tvis Holstebro . Then Sigurbergur Sveinsson joined the Icelandic club ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar . With ÍBV he won the Icelandic Championship and the Icelandic Cup in 2018.

For the Icelandic national team , Sigurbergur Sveinsson played 56 international matches until January 2017 and scored 65 goals; he was in the extended squad for the 2011 World Cup .
