The Dormagen handball club Rhineland was a handball club from Dormagen . The club was created as a spin-off of the professional team from the handball department of TSV Bayer Dormagen with the aim of economic independence. After the previous main sponsor, Bayer AG, left the sport of handball, the first men's team was spun off as an independent club. The home games took place in the TSV Bayer Sportcenter, which was rented for the league games from TSV Bayer Dormagen. Today the first team starts again for the TSV Bayer Dormagen club.
history
founding
The handball department was founded in 1949 under the name TSV Bayer Dormagen . At first only field handball was played and from 1959 indoor handball was also played. The growing popularity of indoor sports eventually led to field handball being discontinued in 1976.
Promotion to the handball Bundesliga
After 15 years in lower leagues, the TSV Bayer Dormagen team rose to the regional league for the first time in 1974. In 1982 he was promoted to the 2nd handball league. From 1987 to 1998 the club played in the first handball league for the first time. After a year in the second division, he was promoted to the first division again. But after two years you had to go down again; for financial reasons, the club voluntarily moved to the Regionalliga West. The club quickly recovered and was promoted to the 2nd handball league the next year.
In 2008 the club was able to qualify again for the first handball Bundesliga. At the end of the 2008/09 season, the club only reached 16th place, but due to the forced relegation of TUSEM Essen and HSG Nordhorn for financial reasons and the sporting descent of the Stralsund HV , the club's whereabouts were secured even without relegation.
In 2009, after the main sponsor's withdrawal, the handball division continued to operate independently under the name TSV Dormagen .
Financial problems since 2010
A financial bottleneck was averted by the former main sponsor Bayer, but he declared his final departure on June 30, 2010. After the spin-off of professional handball from the main club - a requirement of the sponsor of the main club - into a gaming company with three shareholders and the main club with a blocking minority of 26 percent, the first men's team started under the name of Dormagener Handball Club Rheinland .
The club did not get the financial problems solved; on February 7, 2011 it became known that Spielbetriebs-GmbH had to file for bankruptcy; thus the DHC Rhineland was forced out of the 1st handball league.
The Düsseldorf lawyer Dirk Andres was appointed as insolvency administrator . After successful insolvency proceedings, the DHC Rhineland has been restructured since June 2011 and has received the license for the 2011/2012 season in the 2nd handball Bundesliga from the handball Bundesliga, but with the condition of eight minus points due to the opening of insolvency proceedings. The club had initially not received a license for the 2nd handball Bundesliga. The DHC lodged a complaint with HBL against the license withdrawal, which was rejected. It was only through the decision of a neutral court of arbitration that the club had given its license under the condition that the bankruptcy proceedings would be terminated by June 10, 2011.
At a joint press conference on December 27, 2011, the DHC Rhineland and the HSG Düsseldorf announced the establishment of a syndicate on July 1, 2012 under the name DDHC Rheinland (Dormagener Düsseldorfer Handball Club). In anticipation of the future game community, which is extremely controversial, especially among fans of both clubs, two top performers from HSG Düsseldorf will move to Dormagen for the second half of the season.
On March 6, 2012, the DHC withdrew its license application for the 2012/13 season in the 2nd Bundesliga because of further financial difficulties. This also meant that the planned syndicate with the HSG Düsseldorf for the 2012/13 season was canceled. The DHC started as TSV Bayer Dormagen in the 3rd league from the new season . Simultaneously with the withdrawal of the license application, the managing director Heinz Lieven filed for insolvency at the Düsseldorf District Court. The reason is a lack of income in the low six-digit range.
