Dmitri Sergejewitsch Upper ( Russian Дмитрий Сергеевич Уппер ; born July 27, 1978 in Ust-Kamenogorsk ) is a Kazakh ice hockey striker of German descent who was last under contract with Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League .

Career

Dmitri Upper began his career as a hockey player with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Vysschaja Liga , the second Russian division, in the 1997/98 season . During the following season he moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . With his new team, he made it into the first-class super league . The winger then played in the Super League for Nizhny Novgorod and Ak Bars Kazan for a year .

From 2001 to 2003 he was active for the capital club HK Spartak Moscow , before he joined its city neighbor HK CSKA Moscow . He stayed with the latter until 2007 before returning to Spartak Moscow. With Spartak he took part in the game operations of the newly founded Continental Hockey League from 2008 to 2010 . For the 2010/11 season , Upper moved to Atlant Mytishchi . With the team he immediately reached the final of the Gagarin Cup , which, however, was lost to Salawat Yulayev Ufa .

From 2012 Upper played in his Kazakh homeland at Barys Astana in the Continental Hockey League . During the 2015 playoffs, he suffered trauma, so that he was out of the 2015/16 season.

International

For Kazakhstan , Upper took part in the junior division of the U20 Junior C World Championship in 1996 , the U20 Junior B World Championship in 1997 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 1998 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the B-World Championships in 1999 and 2000 , Division I of the World Championships in 2011 and 2013 , when he made a significant contribution to the rise of the Kazakhs with the best plus / minus balance and the most assists World Championships of the top division in 2004 , 2005 , 2012 and 2014 . He also represented Kazakhstan at the 2011 Asian Winter Games . There he won the gold medal with his team. Upper also took part in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and the Olympic qualification for the 2014 Games in Sochi . Although he scored a goal in the decisive game against Latvia , his team lost 3-2, so that the team from the Baltic States qualified for the Winter Games.

Private

Dmitri Upper is married. He met his Russian wife in Nizhny Novgorod . The marriage resulted in son Alexander (* 2006).
