Silvan Koopmann

Silvan Koopmann (* 1948 in Fürth ) is a German trombonist who also worked as a composer and arranger .

Koopmann received his first piano lessons at the age of five . Between 1972 and 1977 he studied at the Fachakademie für Musik in Nuremberg and graduated with the state music certificate in trombone. In 1976 and 1977 he took part in jazz courses at the academy in Remscheid with Sigi Busch , Manfred Schoof and Albert Mangelsdorff . From 1977 to 1979 he studied at the University of Music and Theater in Munich up to the state examination in the field of trombone.

From 1978 Koopmann worked as a trombonist with the Nürnberger Symphoniker , but also in the Rundfunk Big Band Nürnberg . He also worked in the formations of Josef Niessen , Hugo Strasser and Max Greger and performed with Peter Herbolzheimer , Ack van Rooyen , Jiggs Whigham , Emil Mangelsdorff and Dusko Goykovich . In 1978 he continued to found the later Silvan Koopmann Big Band, with which there were regular productions by Bavarian Radio (1983 album), but also appearances on television and at many jazz festivals. Together with the trombonists Kerstin Dikhoff, Dietrich Kawohl and Klaus Hammer he also appears in the quartet 4Bones 4Fun .

After Koopmann had already worked from 1981 to 2001 as a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Nuremberg, he was from 2001 to 2013 as a professor of trombone (classical and jazz), big band line , Ensemble Conducting Jazz and methodology / didactics of Brass at the Academy of Music Nuremberg active. He also worked as a composer and arranger for the State Theater in Fürth, but also for ARD and ZDF.
