Michael Berlemann

Michael Berlemann (born July 19, 1968 in Düsseldorf ) is a German economist.

Life

After graduating from the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Essen-Kettwig , he completed the 15-month military service in Lübeck . He studied economics at the Ruhr University Bochum (1994: Diplom-Ökonom). After a short work at the seminar for economic and financial policy in Bochum ( Hans Besters ), he received a doctoral scholarship from the Free State of Saxony and moved to the TU Dresden . There he became a research assistant at the chair for economics, especially money, credit and currency ( Alexander Karmann ). After receiving his doctorate in 1999 as Dr. rer. pole. With a thesis on political and economic theories of inflation and the economy with the grade summa cum laude, he moved to the Dresden branch of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research as Managing Director in 2004. After completing his habilitation at the Faculty of Economics in Dresden with a thesis on methods of inflation forecasting, he took over October 2006 a substitute professor at the Helmut Schmidt University , where he has been Professor of Economics, especially political economics and empirical economic research, since July 2007 .

His main research interests are monetary macroeconomics, financial crises, household finance, political economics, business cycle research, growth and development, economic analysis of law, health economics and the economic consequences of climate change.
