Silvia Gherardi

Silvia Gherardi (born December 9, 1949 ) has been a professor at the University of Trento in Northern Italy ( Università degli Studi di Trento / Dipartimento di Sociologia e Ricerca Sociale ) since 2000 .

Career

1974 Gehrardi received her Laurea in Sociology . From 1976 to 78 Gherardi worked as a research fellow at the University of Trento and then became a permanent research associate until 1992. From 1992 she worked as an associate professor in Trento and in 2000 received her full professorship. As part of the Research Unit on Communication, Organizational Learning, and Aesthetics (RUCOLA), Gherardi organizes research groups and coordinates the work.

In addition to her teaching and research activities, Ms. Gherardi was involved in the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), where she served on the board from 1997 to 2000. She is also involved as an editor in various scientific journals, including Economic and Industrial Democracy , Organization Studies , Gender, Work and Organization, Journal of Management Studies, Culture and Organization, Leadership, Qualitative Sociology Review, Equal Opportunities International and others.

Research interests

Gherardi is interested in the application of social science findings, learning and knowledge in connection with the world of work, gender studies , working conditions, corporate social responsibility (CSR), general organizational studies, decision-making processes, new technologies and tried to develop a sociological research approach for practice-based studies . She developed her own research methods. For example, she uses a method of interviewing what another would have to do in order for them to do the respondent's job without fuss. In addition to such methodological interests, Gherardi also showed an interest in the cognitive aspects of organizations and professional groups. In addition, she researched culturally differentiated practices of gendering and discrimination against minorities.

Honors

In 2005 Gherardi was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Roskilde in Denmark and in 2010 an honorary doctorate from the University of Eastern Finland . In 2007 she was made an honorary member of EGOS.
