Silvia Pinal Hidalgo (born September 12, 1931 in Guaymas ) is a Mexican actress in films, on stage and on television. She is considered one of the most important actresses in her home country.

Life

Pinal began her career as an actress in the film industry in the late 1940s, and for the following decade worked with important colleagues of the time. In 1952 she received the Mexican film prize Premio Ariel for the first time ; the decisive factor was her performance in Un rincón cerca del cielo . In 1957 and 1958 she was awarded again for the films Locura pasional and La dulce enemiga . She often shot with director Tullio Demicheli , who also used her in Spanish productions; she also received offers from Italy. At the beginning of the 1960s, Pinals began working with Luis Buñuel , in whose Viridiana , Der Würgeengel and Simon in der Desert she probably interpreted her internationally best-known and most important roles. Until her retirement from the cinema in 1982, she could not record any more similar successes; Even international productions like San Sebastian received no such artistic attention.

In 1968 she made her debut in telenovelas ; Los caudillos was her first television appearance, which was followed by numerous others in series and individual films. In 2010 she took part in the Novela Soy tu dueña . In the mid-1980s she also appeared as a producer of such programs; In 1983 and 2011 she received prizes for her acting achievements in telenovelas.

It wasn't until the 1990s that Pinal played on stages; The main roles in the Spanish version of Hello, Dolly! and Gypsy .

On the political stage, Pinal was a member of Congress for the Partido Revolucionario Institucional between 1991 and 1994 ; then she turned to the political work of the state of México until October 1997 .

Pinal was married four times; from the first marriage (1947 to 1952 with the actor Rafael Banquells ) comes a daughter, from the second (1961 to 1967 with businessman and film producer Gustavo Alatriste ) another. The third marriage (with singer and actor Enrique Guzmán ) lasted from 1967 to 1976; she has a daughter ( Alejandra Guzmán ) and her only son. Finally, Pinal was married for the fourth time to the politician Tulio Hernández Gómez from 1982 to 1995.

In 2008 Pinal was awarded the Mexican Ariel de Oro Film Prize for her life's work.
