The Simmons Basin is a largely ice-free basin in East Antarctica Victoria Land . It extends between the Solitary Rocks and the Friis Hills in a southeastern direction not far from the north side of the bend of the Taylor Glacier . The lower eastern end is taken up by Simmons Lake and a side tongue of the Taylor Glacier.

The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the basin in 1992 after the US-American biologist George M. Simmons Jr. of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University , who from 1977 teamed the United States Antarctic Research Program in studies at Lake Bonney , Fryxell for over ten years , Lake Hoare , Lake Vanda and other lakes in the Antarctic Dry Valleys .
