The Fryxellsee ( English Lake Fryxell ) is an approximately four and a half kilometer long meromictic lake between the Canada and the Commonwealth glaciers in Victoria Land in the east of the Antarctic continent . It is located in the Taylor Valley of the Antarctic Dry Valleys . The Fryxellsee was discovered and mapped by the Terra Nova Expedition (1910 to 1913) under Sir Robert Falcon Scott and named in 1957 after Fritiof M. Fryxell (1900-1986), a glacial geologist from Augustana College in Illinois ( USA ) .
Like many other Antarctic lakes, the lake is also home to large numbers of prokaryotic creatures .
