Simo Salminen (musician)

Simo Salminen (born December 16, 1956 in Helsinki ; † March 3, 2014 there ) was a Finnish jazz trumpeter (also flugelhorn ).

Salminen began his musical career in the 1970s and played in various Finnish jazz orchestras, such as the Finnish Big Band (by Seppo "Paroni" Paakkunainen ), the Tapiola Big Band , Paradise and the UMO Jazz Orchestra under Heikki Sarmanto and Esko Linnavalli . In 1978 he moved to the United States, where he was a member of the Buddy Rich Big Band ( The Man from Planet Jazz 1980) and u. a. also played in the orchestras of Eddie Palmieri and Machito . In 1983 he returned to his homeland. In the field of jazz he was involved in forty recording sessions between 1974 and 1985. a. also with Mel Lewis , Jukka Gustavson, Eero Koivistoinen , Lasse Mårtenson , Seppo Rannikko, Jarmo Savolainen and the Pori Big Band & Ernie Wilkins . As a studio musician , he also worked for Mike Oldfield ( Exposed ).
