Simon Durand
Simon Durand (born December 18, 1838 in Geneva , † May 7, 1896 in Cery (municipality of Prilly )) was a Swiss genre and portrait painter as well as draftsman and watercolorist .
Born as the son of merchant Jean-Etienne Durand and Mary Martin, Simon Durand began his art studies with engraver Louis-Moïse Spiess. He then studied painting at the Geneva Art School (École des Beaux-Arts) with Barthélemy Menn . Durand came to Paris in 1870 . He created wall paintings in the town hall of Plainpalais in the canton of Geneva .
Durand exhibited regularly at the Paris salons, was awarded gold medals (Paris 1875, Rouen 1880 and Lyon 1894) and silver medals (Lyon 1882 and Paris 1889).
