Simon Gregorčič
Simon Gregorčič (born October 15, 1844 in Vrsno , Kobarid , Goriška ; † November 24, 1906 in Goriška) was a Slovenian poet .
Life
After attending school, he attended a seminary and after his ordination in 1867 worked as a Catholic vicar in Kobarid, where in 1868 he founded one of the first libraries in Slovenia. In 1873 he moved to Branik near Nova Gorica as a parish priest, where he was a popular pastor, but had problems with the church authorities.
His poems , inspired by France Prešeren , were characterized by melancholy, sensitive natural poetry in simple forms and appeared in four volumes of poetry: Poezije I (1882), Poezije II (1888), Poezije III (1902) and posthumously Poezije IV (1908). His most famous poems include Ujetega ptiča tožba , the Ode to Isonzo Soči and the love poem Kropiti te ne smem .
In his birthplace in Vrsno now houses a Rojstna hiša Simona Gregorčiča called Literature Museum . The composer Avgust Ipavec also created the oratorio Let my nightingale sing in his honor .
