Simon Grundel-Helmfelt (born September 25, 1617 in Stockholm , † July 14, 1676 at Landskrona ) was a Swedish field marshal and imperial councilor .

Life

Simon Grundel-Helmfelt fought on the side of the Swedish army in the Thirty Years' War : he took part in the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1642 and was made a knight five years later for his military services. In 1646 he was injured on his arm in the battle of Rain am Lech . Three years later he was promoted to colonel in the artillery and in 1655 to major general of the infantry.

In 1656 the Swedish king appointed Goby-Helmfelt as governor of Riga . In the same year he successfully defended the city against the Russian army under Alexei I. Two years later he became lieutenant general, in 1659 governor general of Ingermanland and in 1673 a member of the imperial council . In 1676 he returned to Stockholm and became Commander in Chief of the Swedish Army during the Northern War . In the same year he died in the battle of Landskrona .
