Simon Gysbers (born May 7, 1987 in Richmond Hill , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the Schwenninger Wild Wings from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Career
Gysbers began his career in the 2003/04 season with the Stouffville Spirit in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League (OPJHL) . There he played a total of three seasons before he was on the ice between 2006 and 2010 for the university team of Lake Superior State University in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , which was integrated into the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association / ice hockey . In March 2010, the defender signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies from the American Hockey League . There Gysbers was in the 2011/12 season with his game-winning goal in the Western Conference final significantly in the entry of his team into the final of the Calder Cup , where they lost in four games against the Norfolk Admirals involved. Due to his solid performance, his contract with the Marlies was extended for another year in July 2012.
In summer 2013, Gysbers decided to move to Europe and joined Tampereen Ilves , for whom he played in the Finnish Liiga in the 2013/14 season. The following year, the right-shooter played for league rivals TPS Turku before moving to the Swedish first division club Djurgårdens IF in January 2015 . From July 2015 Gysbers was on the ice at KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League and after the 2015/16 season moved to the German first division club Schwenninger Wilds Wings .
After his contract with Schwenninger Wild Wings was not renewed after the 2016/2017 season, Gysbers announced his retirement from professional ice hockey on May 15, 2017.
