Simon Heilig-Hofbauer (* 1987 in Eberstalzell , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian politician ( Greens ) and student. He was a member of the Salzburg state parliament from 2013 to 2018, and has been a member of the state parliament again since May 7, 2019.

education and profession

Simon Heilig-Hofbauer grew up in the Upper Austrian city of Wels and attended the Bundesrealgymnasium in Anton-Brucknerstraße in Wels between 1998 and 2006. He passed the Matura and then did his community service at the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund between 2006 and 2007 . Heilig-Hofbauer graduated from the University of Salzburg with a degree in political science. He is currently pursuing the second part of his degree in law, as well as an MBA in public management.

Politics and functions

Heilig-Hofbauer was a board member of the “ Academic Forum for Foreign Policy Salzburg - United Nations Youth and Student Association of Austria” (AFA) from 2008 and 2010 and also deputy chairman of the AFA-Salzburg from 2010 to 2012. He also worked from 2008 to 2011 as the deputy head of the RedeSalz debating club at the University of Salzburg. Heilig-Hofbauer has been active in student politics since 2009, where he began his engagement in 2009 as an activist for the Greens & Alternative Students Salzburg (GRAS). Between 2009 and 2013 he was a mandate of the Political Science Students ' Representation, between 2009 and 2011 he was the second deputy chairman of the Faculty Representation for Culture & Social Sciences and during this time he was also the organizational officer of the Austrian Students' Union at the University of Salzburg (ÖH-Salzburg). After that, between 2011 and 2013 he worked alongside Tobias Aigner (VSStÖ) as chairman of the Salzburg Austrian Students' Union. Furthermore, between January and June 2013 he was a federal board member of the Young Greens. Heilig-Hofbauer, who has also been a board member of the Grünen Bildungswerkstatt (GBW) Salzburg since 2011 , ran for the 2013 state election and was subsequently sworn in as a member of the state parliament on June 19, 2013. He was area spokesman for youth, universities, art, security, constitution, federalism and democracy as well as 2nd deputy club chairman and chairman of the education, school, sports and culture committee of the Salzburg state parliament. He is a member of the board of the akzente and Salzburger Jugendhilfe associations and a member of the board of trustees of the Salzburger Bildungswerk. Since 2015 he has also been a member of the theater committee of the Salzburg State Theater.

Hofbauer's publication that the FPÖ politician Markus Hüttenmeyer had described himself as a National Socialist led to Hüttemeyer's resignation from all offices in 2018.

After the state elections in Salzburg in 2018 , he left the state parliament. After the municipal council and mayoral elections in Salzburg in 2019 and Martina Berthold's move to the Salzburg city government on May 8, 2019, he took over her mandate in the state parliament.
