Simon Marmion
Simon Marmion (* around 1425 probably in Amiens , † December 15, 1489 in Valenciennes ) was a painter and illuminator who worked in northern France and Flemish regions.
Life
He is probably a son of the Amiens painter Jean Marmion . It can be traced back to Valenciennes from 1458 . In addition to panel paintings, Simon Marmion mainly specialized in book illumination. He was one of the leading artists of his time here. A division of labor with other artists in the center of book art at that time, the city of Bruges , has been proven. His style is characterized as a synthesis of the northern French school and the then leading Flemish-Dutch style.
