Simon Martirosyan ( Armenian Սիմոն Մարտիրոսյան in scientific transliteration Simon Martirosyan , born February 17, 1997 in Haykashen ) is an Armenian weightlifter .

biography

In 2014, Simon Martirosjan set the junior records in pushing, snatching and tackling in the weight class up to 94 kg. In the same year he took part in the Summer Youth Olympic Games , where he won the gold medal in the weight class over 85 kg. Also in his debut at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he was able to reach the final in the heavyweight division , but in the final he lost to the Uzbek Ruslan Nurudinov .

After Martirosjan won bronze at the European Championships in 2016 , he managed to win the European Championship title in 2017 and 2019 .

He also won the world championships in 2018 in the weight class up to 109 kg, setting a new world record in pushing. In the following year he was able to defend his world title and this time set a new world record in the tear.
