Simon Philipp (Lippe)
Simon Philipp zur Lippe (born April 6, 1632 in Detmold ; † June 19, 1650 in Florence ) was sovereign of the County of Lippe from 1636 to 1650 .
Life
He was the eldest son of Count Simon Ludwig zu Lippe and his wife Katharina von Waldeck.
When his father died of smallpox in 1636 , Simon Philipp and his brothers were still young. Countess Katharina strove for guardianship over her sons, but since she was not yet of legal age at the age of 24, her father, Count Christian von Waldeck , should be brought in as guardian. But then Johann Bernhard , brother of the deceased count, announced the guardianship of his nephews and the regency in the country.
Fearing for the lives of her sons, Countess Katharina got in touch with the Hesse-Darmstadt troops who were in Lemgo and Rinteln at the time , and in 1638 a Hessian captain kidnapped the young princes and brought them to Lemgo and Hameln (" Prince robbery "). Later they were placed in the care of Landgrave Georg II of Hessen-Darmstadt in Marburg ; Georg's grandmother was a sister of Simon VI on his father 's side. from lip .
In 1645, the princes were brought to safety in Giessen to protect them from the war . Smallpox spread there, which is why Simon Philipp's younger brothers died in 1646. Then his mother Katharina - she had married Philipp Ludwig von Holstein-Wiesenburg and was now Duchess of Holstein - had her son "kidnapped" a second time in 1647. Count Simon Philipp returned to Detmold via detours. Here he got engaged to the 7-year-old Countess Elisabeth Charlotte von Holzappel.
From 1649 Simon Philipp traveled to Paris , Grenoble , Rome , Milan and Florence. In Florence he fell ill with smallpox and died of it in 1650. Since he died without descendants, his uncle, Johann Bernhard , became the legal ruler of the County of Lippe.
