Simon von Rietberg

Simon von Rietberg (* in the 13th century; † in the 14th century) was provost in Paderborn and canon in Münster .

Origin and family

Simon von Rietberg came from the von Rietberg family and was the son of Count Friedrich von Rietberg and his wife Beatrix von Horstmar, daughter of Otto von Horstmar and Alheidis von Ahaus . His siblings were

Simon can be verified as Canon of Osnabrück since 1281. Here he was cathedral cantor and provost of Wiedenbrück. Had been when his brother Otto was elected bishop of Muenster, he took over his in 1306 Münstersche Dompräbende and remained until 1336 in their possession. In Paderborn he was provost of the cathedral, but had to cede the provost office to Bernhard von der Lippe in 1304 . In 1317 he was a cathedral thesaurus in Osnabrück. In this function he was responsible for the management of goods and assets in the cathedral chapter .
