Simone Jung (born April 26, 1967 in Karlsruhe ) is a German filmmaker and director specializing in documentary film .

Life

While studying German , philosophy and psychoanalysis at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , she gained her first journalistic experience, among others at the Jahreszeiten Verlag in Hamburg, at the Tele - FAZ in Frankfurt and in the culture department in the radio department of Hessischer Rundfunk . In the latter, she completed an editorial traineeship after completing her studies and then immediately worked in the field of television, politics and society. She has been working as a freelance director and writer since 1998. As part of a team of authors, she produced the first, longer documentary “Kaufhaus M. Schneider” (1999) about the decline of a traditional Frankfurt department store; reports about criminals and their relatives follow. Then she devotes herself to the topic of nature in the program “Der Wald”. Since there is nothing better for her than shooting in nature and possibly giving the viewer an awareness of its specialty, she deals with the topic several times. In 2003 her magazine article “The Man in the Trees” received the German Camera Prize in the report category .

In her documentaries about people, she is primarily interested in borderline experiences and taboos. She tells very empathetically about the lives of offenders, elderly people - also with dementia ("Butterbrötchen at half past four" 2005), singles in the big city ("Alone in the City - Singles and Solitude" 2005) or children with cancer (" Datz knows no fear ”2006). A portrait of the boxer Regina Halmich will start in the cinema in 2009 (" Queen in the Ring") ; For about five years she worked on the film portrait of the deaf protagonist Natalie, who accompanied her from the world of silence to the world of sound ("Natalie or the sound of silence" 2012). In addition, she wrote the book of the same name based on this.

She also realizes topics of political relevance, including her documentation about the circumstances of the death of Benno Ohnesorg who was shot from behind (Benno Ohnesorg - His Death and Our Life "2016) or the repeatedly bloody conflict over the Temple Mount in Jerusalem (" Mysterious Places - The Temple Mount in Jerusalem "2018).
