Pierre Cressoy

Pierre Jules Lazare Cressoy (born March 25, 1924 in Vendôme , Loir-et-Cher , † October 31, 1980 in Gorbio , Alpes-Maritimes ) was a French actor .

Life

After finishing school, Cressoy began to study medicine at the request of his father, which he dropped out after a year to become an actor. His debut in 1944 in Jean Racine's Andromaque was followed by four years on the stage until he received his first screen role under the direction of Léon Mathot in La dernière chávauchée .

He has starred in melodramas and biographies ; Occasional engagements for Hollywood productions were also included. In the 1960s he moved to father roles and (often criminal) patriarch as in many spaghetti westerns , where he also called Peter Cross was listed in the staff information.

In his private life he was in a relationship with his colleague Hélène Rémy for a long time ; after the breakup, he married Françoise Mafranc ; the marriage lasted until his death.

Cressoy died of cancer at the age of 56. For his impersonation of Giuseppe Verdi in 1954 he had received an award for "best actor". In the anime " Noir " one of the main characters bears his name.
