Sipa Press is a French picture agency based in Paris and New York . Sipa Press is the largest photo agency in France. It was founded in 1973 by the Turkish press photographer Gökşin Sipahioğlu , together with the American journalist Phyllis Springer. The agency specialized in reportage photography from the start .
Sipa Press is the market leader in daily photojournalism in France. The agency sells up to 6,000 photos daily in over 40 countries in the fields of politics, business, entertainment and sport.
The editorial team has 32 permanent employees and around 600 correspondents worldwide (as of 2018). Sipa Press has partnered with Associated Press , Rex Features in the UK and La Presse in Italy. The Sipa Inc. branch in New York looks after the American market.
In July 2011, Sipa Press was taken over by the dapd news agency , and Olivier Mégean became CEO in February 2012. When dapd went bankrupt, Sipa Press also had to file for bankruptcy at the end of 2012. As a result of a court ruling in France, new management was installed in 2013 and the company regained its independence. The majority of Sipa Press, the largest photo agency in France, was taken over in 2013 by the Sino-American Charles Jing.
