The Sira is a 152 km long river in the Agder Fylke in southern Norway .

The river has its origin in Sirdalsheiene in the border area between the two provinces of Agder and Rogaland . From here the river flows south through the Sirdal valley , flows through the two elongated lakes Sirdalsvatnet and Lundevatnet , passes the village of Åna-Sira and then flows into the North Sea . Its lower course - below the Lundevatnet - forms the border between Agder and Rogaland.

Use of hydropower

The Sira was developed together with the neighboring Kvina River for the use of hydropower. The hydropower plants Duge kraftverk , Tjørhom kraftverk , Tonstad kraftverk and Åna-Sira kraftverk are located in the catchment area of the Sira . The Tonstad kraftverk is measured by its annual output of 3,650 GWh , the largest hydroelectric power plant in Norway.
