The Siskiyou Mountains are a mountain range on the North American Pacific coast in the northern Klamath Mountains . They are located in northwest California and southwest Oregon in the United States . The mountain range runs in an arc shape for about 160 kilometers starting east of Crescent City northeast along the north side of the Klamath River in Josephine County and Jackson County in Oregon. The Siskiyou Mountains form a watershed between the catchment areas of the Klamath River and the Rogue River .

The highest peaks in the mountain range are Mount Ashland (2,296 meters), Dutchman Peak (2,259 meters), Siskiyou Peak (2,178 meters) and Wagner Butte (2,176 meters), all of which are in Oregon; the highest point in California is Preston Peak (2,228 meters). Because of its proximity to the Pacific coast and its altitude, the mountain range receives a large amount of rainfall and the area is lush.

In the northeast of the Siskiyou Mountains and in the transition area to the Cascade Range in the north and the dry steppe of the Great Basin in the southeast lies the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument , a nature reserve that preserves the area's particularly high biodiversity due to its transitional character . In the west of the mountains, southwest of Medford, is the Oregon Caves National Monument , a stalactite cave in marble.
