Sitamun , also Sit-Amun or Zatamun , actually Satamun , was an ancient Egyptian princess of the 18th Dynasty and the firstborn daughter of King ( Pharaoh ) Amenophis III. and his great royal consort Teje .

title

Replica of the Sitamun's throne
  1. Daughter of the king, born of his body.
  2. Great royal consort to the king who loves her.
  3. Mistress of the two countries.

supporting documents

Objects with their name are relatively numerous. In the grave ( KV46 ) of her grandparents Juja and Tuja was a throne that belonged to her and on which a servant is depicted, who gives her the gold of the southern countries . Another throne from the same tomb shows her in front of her mother Teje. A relief block, which probably shows her picture, comes from the mortuary temple of Amenhotep II. Other finds have shown that Amenhotep III. built this temple.

marriage

Probably in the 30th year of the reign she married her father Amenophis III. and, like her sister Isis later , became his "Great Royal Wife". This marriage does not necessarily have to mean an incestuous relationship, but could also have a ritual - religious character.

Amarna time

Nothing is known about this princess from the Amarna period . There is the thesis that she is identical with Baketaton and that she assumed this new name under the rule of her brother Akhenaten .
