Sitona striatellus , formerly Sitona tibialis ( autumn ), is a beetle from the family of weevils and the subfamily Entiminae . The scientific generic name Sitona is from Altgr. σῖτος sītos , derived from "grain". The species name "striatellus" ( Latin ) means "finely striped". Since the genus is called the leaf beetle in German, the beetle should be Germanized as "fine-striped leaf beetle".

Characteristics of the beetle

The top is scaled and there are protruding bristles. On the label , the scales are directed backwards and close together. The length is between three and five millimeters.

The mouthparts sit on an extension of the head, the trunk. The proboscis is thick and relatively short, the groove for inserting the first antennae (antennae groove) is on the proboscis side. It is sharply demarcated, curves downward in front of the eyes and runs out under the eyes. The tip of the proboscis is not clearly demarcated, its scales are not broad, but narrow, and more greenish than in Sitona languidis . The upper jaws are densely scaled. The kneeled antennae consist of a medium-long shaft and a seven-limbed slender whip, in the last limb of which the four-limbed spindle-shaped club sits. The round eyes are clearly arched.

The shape of the pronotum varies. Usually it is only slightly wider than the head with eyes when viewed from above with continuously convex sides. It is roughly spotted. No seams between the individual parts of the skeleton can be seen on the front chest. On the side and on the underside of the body, the front part of the front chest is tied off from the rest of the front chest like a ring or collar. The front hip cavities, in which the front hips are pivoted, are not removed from this dividing line, but reach up to it.

The wing covers are also very variable in color and shape. They are wider than the pronotum and have well-developed shoulders. The longitudinal stripes are usually weak. The protruding bristles are shorter than a space wide. The mostly gray scales are relatively large and do not stand close together.

The thighs are imperforated. The tarsi are all pseudotetramer, so they appear to be four-part. The claws are not grown together at the base.

biology

The herbaceous plant is a good aid for the determination. The species is found on broom , gorse species and species of the goat clover . Oviposition is limited to simply scattering the eggs near the host plant.

distribution

The species occurs in almost all of Europe, to the north it is absent in Scandinavia , to the south-west Albania , Macedonia , Greece and Turkey are already outside the range. To the northeast, the species is no longer found in the Ukraine or in central and northern Russia . Reports from North America are probably due to incorrect determinations.
