Restaurants

In 1900, a restaurant with a bowling alley was built on the former business part of a former castle courtyard. This Carl Tilgenkamp restoration was known as "Haus Sittard" and was located at number 22 today. There were music and theater performances and apparently exuberant celebrations for wealthy citizens. The owner of the restaurant laid out a bicycle and motorcycle racing track before 1900, to which many drivers and spectators traveled. The restaurant was even advertised on several postcards from Rheindahlen from 1898 and around 1900. Later the location was rebuilt and converted into a retirement home, the Ritaheim. This was demolished in December 1998 together with the St. John's Chapel and then rebuilt by the new owner of the site as a home for the disabled with a new St. John's Chapel.

The Geiser family operated a post office at number 29, Sittard. A restaurant was opened there in 1969 after the extensions were redesigned. The owners were now the Meurer family. Haus Sittard "Zur Jagdhütte" was chosen as the name of the restaurant. On the one hand, this tied in with the tradition of the old Sittard House, on the other hand, it blended into the environment, which includes forest areas and hunters. The restaurant was run by various tenants for 20 years with interruptions. In 1989 the location was converted into private apartments.

schools

Sittard has had its own school building since 1864. A new school building was built between 1963 and 1966 southeast of the Erlenbruch. Regular school operations ceased as early as 1978 and the school building served as a special needs school for the physically handicapped until the move to Max-Reger-Strasse in Rheindahlen. The former gravel pit - Kull - to the north of the school building, which was demolished in 2004 , is now used as a football field. At the end of the 1970s, an art exhibition was held there with the Kunstkull .
