Günhoven is a Honschaft (district) of the district Rheindahlen land in District West (until 22 October 2009 Rheindahlen ) in Mönchengladbach with around 600 inhabitants.

geography

Günhoven is located on the western outskirts of Mönchengladbach. Rheindahlen, the main town of the Honschaft, is about one kilometer as the crow flies to the west. Günhoven mainly consists of two streets (Voosener Straße and Stadtwaldstraße) with the latter connecting Rheindahlen with Rheydt as L 370 . The town is about one kilometer long in north-south expansion.

The chapel “Zum hl. Nicholas ”from 1844

The central point of the place is the St. Matthias Church for the villages of Günhoven, Voosen and Genhülsen. The first groundbreaking was made on October 4, 1947, and the church was consecrated on August 31, 1952. A lead capsule was walled in, which contains a parchment of the dates of the inauguration and a picture of the Mother of God. In July 2012 the church was converted into a Church of the Holy Sepulcher. On Günhovener Straße is the chapel “Zum hl. Nicholas". This building has been a listed building since June 2, 1987.

history

The first traces of settlement in today's Günhover area are a fragmentary hand ax that dates from around 5000 BC. BC . The first mention of the "Günhof" takes place in 1515.

societies

In addition to the St. Georg riding club, there has been a volunteer fire brigade in Günhoven since 1877 , which merged with the guard in Kothausen in 2005. An HLF 10/10 serves as the emergency vehicle .

education

A primary school has existed in Günhoven since 1843, which is located in the school building built in 1962 on Stadtwaldstrasse.

In addition to the urban forest road from Rheindahlen to Rheydt ( L 370 ) leading through Günhoven , a section of the railway line from Dalheim to Rheydt ( Iron Rhine ) runs north of the village. There was a breakpoint there between 1911 and 1962 . Günhoven was connected to the water supply in 1934.
