The climate is tropical and warm; Rain falls mainly in the monsoon months August to November.

history

With interruptions mainly due to the Chola (approx. 850 to 1200), the Pandyas dynasty (capital Madurai ) ruled the region from the early Middle Ages . In the 14th century, Muslim rulers briefly occupied power, which then passed to the Hindu Vijayanagar Empire, which in turn had to make way for the Nawabs of Karnatik (approx. 1690–1801). In the meantime, however, the British and French fought for supremacy in the region in the Carnatic Wars (1744–1763).

Attractions

  • The place has a Shiva temple dating back to the Pandya period , the Nandi statue of which is located in the pillar vestibule ( mandapa ) and rests on a pedestal.
  • On the banks of the Gadananathi River there is another pillar hall, open on all sides, with a pedestal, but without the Nandi bull.
