Siyanda Xulu (born December 30, 1991 in Durban ) is a South African soccer player who has been under contract with the Israeli first division club Hapoel Tel-Aviv since August 2017 .
Career
After leaving the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Academy in 2009 , Xulu joined the Mamelodi Sundowns . The young central defender's strong performances did not go unnoticed. In May 2010 he completed a trial session at FC Barcelona and in September at Arsenal FC . Both times, however, the training ended without a contract offer from a club and so Xulu remained in South Africa.
In September 2012, Siyanda Xulu moved to the Russian club FK Rostow , where he signed a four-year contract. At the Premjer League club, however, Xulu could not be promoted to permanent staff and completed only 30 missions in three seasons. With Rostov he won the cup in the 2013/14 season
For the 2015/16 season he returned to his homeland in South Africa to join the Kaizer Chiefs. Even with his new club, Xulu did not get the necessary match practice. He only made six league appearances in two years.
On August 3, 2017, in the hope of more match practice, he left the Kaizer Chiefs and joined Maritzburg United , where he became a regular upon arrival. In the 2017/18 season he only missed one league game due to a yellow card suspension. He was appointed captain for the 2018/19 season. After the end of the 2019/20 season, he left the first division club for free.
On August 19, 2020, he entered into a two-year contract with the Israeli first division club Hapoel Tel-Aviv .
National team
On June 15, 2012, Siyanda Xulu made his debut for the South African national team when he came on in a 3-0 home win in a friendly against Gabon .
At the COSAFA Cup 2018 , Xulu led his home country onto the pitch as captain. In the 4-1 win against Namibia in the consolation round he scored his first international goal.
