Gniben, the tip of Sjællands Odde |
Sjællands Odde is a tourist place on the narrow peninsula of the same name on the northwest coast of the Danish island of Zealand . It protrudes 15 km into the Kattegat . The end point of the peninsula is called Gniben .
Sjællands Odde belongs to the municipality of Odsherred in the Sjælland region , the village itself has less than 200 inhabitants and therefore does not count as a town in Danish terms. The largest town on the peninsula is Havnebyen with 622 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). Odden Kirke Church is in Overby . There are small fishing villages on the north coast, while the south coast is dominated by holiday homes.
During the Stone Age , Sjællands Odde was an island that over time was connected to Zealand by uplifting land.
The peninsula is important for the transport system through the ferry port Odden Færgehavn , from which there are boat connections to the Jutland mainland (to Aarhus and Ebeltoft ).
