Sjúrður Skaale (born March 8, 1967 in Tórshavn ) is a social democratic politician, journalist, actor and singer from the Faroe Islands . As one of the two Faroese representatives, he has been a member of the Danish Folketing since 2011 .

Early years

Sjúrður Skaale was born in 1967 in Tórshavn as the son of the teacher couple Jóannes and Óluva Skaale. In 1987 he graduated from Føroya Studentaskúli og HF-skeið in Hoydalar . From 1992 to 1997 he studied political science at universities in Copenhagen and Madrid .

Professional career

During his training, he worked as a journalist for Faroese newspapers ( Dimmalætting / Sosialurin ) and for Faroese television from 1989 to 1998 . From 1999 to 2001 he worked as a consultant for the Faroese state government . From 2001 to 2005 he worked as a secretary for the North Atlantic Group in the Folketing in Christiansborg and from 2005 to 2008 he was again employed in the Faroe Islands as a teacher and in advertising.

Political activities

From the beginning of 2008 to October 2011 he was a member of parliament in Løgting, Faro, from January 2008 to May 2011 for the republican party Tjóðveldi . At times he also represented Høgni Hoydal for Tjóðveldi from February 2008 to September 2008 in the Danish Folketing.

In May 2011, Sjúrður Skaale left Tjóðveldi. He found himself more and more isolated with his views within the party. As a result, he joined the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin and ran for the party in the elections for the Danish Folketing in autumn 2011. In addition to Edmund Joensen from Sambandsflokkurin , Sjúrður Skaale from Javnaðarflokkinum was elected as one of the two Faroese representatives in the Danish parliament on September 15, 2011, where he was able to achieve 1,539 personal votes.

In the next election for the Folketing in June 2015, he was re-elected and was able to increase his personal share of the vote to 2,495 votes, which is also the highest share of votes among the candidates. Since then he has represented Faroese interests in the Danish Parliament together with Magni Arge vom Tjóðveldi (on behalf of Høgni Hoydal).

Sjúrður Skaale has also been active as a comedian, actor and singer in the past. Together with comedian Jákup Veyhe, he founded the satire and comedy duo "Pipar & Salt" (pepper & salt). He also played the leading role in the comedy series "E elski Førjar" from 2008, in which he sang the legendary Faroese rap song Danskt pjatt as Haraldur .

Private life

Sjúrður Skaale is married to Súsanna O. Skaale. The couple have two children.
