Magni Arge
Magni Arge (born December 15, 1959 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese businessman and politician of the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldi .
Professional career
Magni Arge studied political science at Aarhus University from 1979 to 1987 and graduated with a bachelor's degree. In 1987 he completed additional training in journalism at the Danish Journalism College . From 1983 to 1985 he also studied at the University of the Faroe Islands Scandinavian and Faroese language and literature , graduating as an exam. art. from.
In 1990 he became managing director at T-Mac (representation for Apple and Canon ) and remained so until 1993. From 1993 to 1996 he was chairman of the Faroese council for tourism (Ferðaráð).
However, his main activity for many years was the management of the Faroese airline Atlantic Airways , which he carried out from June 1995 to November 2013. At the same time he was a board member of the Faroese employers' association from 1997 to 2014 and an active member in numerous other Faroese clubs and associations.
politics
Arge stood for the first time in the parliamentary elections in 1988 as a member of Parliament for Tjóðveldi for election. After retiring from the management of Atlantic Airways , he ran for Tjóðveldi in the Folketing election in June 2015 and received 1,082 votes, the second highest share of votes in his party, just after Høgni Hoydal . Since then he has sat as a representative of Høgni Hoydal together with Sjúrður Skaale from Javnaðarflokkurin in the Danish parliament to represent Faroese interests there.
On September 1, 2015 he was also elected as a member of the Faroese parliament, the Løgting , for Tjóðveldi . At that time he achieved the fourth-best result within his party with 438 personal votes. Since he did not want to give up his seat in the Danish Folketing, Ingolf S. Olsen took over his place in the Faroese parliament as a successor.
In autumn 2016 it was announced that Magni Arge had decided to give up its Folketing seat in order to work as a member of parliament for Tjóðveldi in Løgting. Ingolf. S Olsen therefore has to vacate his chair there in October 2016 after a year as a member of parliament. Tórbjørn Jacobsen , Mayor of Runavík , is to take over the Folketing Seat of Magni Arge.
Meeting with Puigdemont
In January 2018, Magni Arge, as a member of the Folketing for Tjóðveldi, invited the former Catalan Prime Minister Carles Puigdemont from his exile in Belgium to Copenhagen to hold talks with various members of the Folketing about the current situation in Catalonia. However, the three ruling parties announced a little later that they did not intend to meet with Puigdemont. The reason given was scheduling difficulties. Henrik Dahl from the Liberal Alliance had no scheduling problems, but refused to meet with Puigdemont because he had committed " high treason ". The Greenlandic Folketing MP Aaja Chemnitz Larsen also stated that she would not attend the meeting with Puigdemont because she would rather concentrate on Greenlandic affairs. Magni Arge, who is still holding on to the meeting, said of the sudden cancellations that he had the impression that someone had put pressure on the MPs.
family
Magni Arge is the son of Niels Juel Arge and his wife Petra (née Gregersen). The Faroese writer and journalist Jógvan Arge is his older brother. Magni Arge grew up in Tórshavn and now lives with Marna Matras Jensen in Argir . The couple has three children.
